FAQ

Below are some frequently asked questions. If you've got another one to add to the list, feel free to contact us!

How do I apply for admissions to the Honors Program?

First-year students are automatically reviewed for admission to the Temple University Honors Program. There is no separate application for Honors Program admission.
For current Temple students or transfers looking to join the Honors Program, we will review your college transcript and answers to our application. See more information on our Admissions page.

What kinds of activities does the Honors Program sponsor?

Honors students have access to all that Temple has to offer, which is a lot! But here in the Honors Program we have several organizations you can join. Check out the Honors Organizations here! Also follow us on Instagram & TikTok (@templehonors), so you can see what exciting things we are doing.

Is there Honors-specific housing?

There is! About 85% of our first year students choose to live in the 1300 Residence Hall in the Honors Living Learning Community. The accommodations are suite-style with four students split into two bedrooms and sharing a 1.5 baths. 1300 also features study lounges, classrooms, a TV lounge, and computer stations with printing. There is also housing available for upper-classmen in the Returner LLC in 1300. Find out more about housing options on the Living Learning Community page.

What are the advantages of being in the Honors Program?

There are lots of advantages to being part of the Honors Program! Here are some of them:

  • Courses: Honors courses have smaller class sizes, incredible instructors, deep exploration, and an emphasis on interdisciplinary learning.
  • Honors Living Learning Community: A 4-year housing option for all Honors students in the 1300 Residence Hall. Living with other Honors students encourages collaboration, community, and increases exposure to diverse backgrounds.
  • Priority Registration: As an Honors student, you will be able to register on the first day of the registration period.
  • Honors Lounge + The Huddle: We have a computer lab, study spaces, a 3D printer, an art gallery and (very) comfy couches. Join us to work between classes, meet up with friends, heat up your lunch, and just to hang out!
  • Advising: We are more than happy to meet with you and discuss your plans for this afternoon, this month, or your whole life. (That last one usually requires some extra time.) Students can work with any advisor they want. Click here to see how to meet with us.
  • Community: Our students create a vibrant, scholarly, eclectic community. We have several student organizations and many opportunities to make the most of your time here at Temple.
How are Honors courses different?

Honors courses are NOT more work or more difficult than non-Honors courses. They are typically smaller in class size and taught as seminars rather than lectures, so they allow for a deeper and more personal exploration of the course content. Our professors are at the top of their fields and are lauded for their insight and focus on learning. We offer courses at all levels, including Honors options in all General Education areas. Honors "Special Topics" courses tend to be faculty passion projects such as Ethics in Medicine, Battleground Cinema, and Comics Journalism, just to name a few.
